Dr. Hiba Mustafa, MD is a Maternal–Fetal Medicine specialist at Riley Children’s Health and Indiana University School of Medicine, where she serves as Director of the Fetal Center, Director of the Fetal Surgery Program, and Director of the Placenta Accreta Spectrum Program.

Her clinical and research focus centers on advanced fetal therapy and complex obstetric surgery, including minimally invasive and open fetal interventions for conditions such as monochorionic twin complications, congenital diaphragmatic hernia, and spina bifida (myelomeningocele), as well as multidisciplinary surgical management of placenta accreta spectrum. She has developed and implemented innovative minimally invasive fetoscopic techniques for spina bifida repair, aimed at optimizing maternal safety while maintaining favorable fetal outcomes.

Dr. Mustafa holds multiple national leadership roles within North American Fetal Therapy Network (NAFTNet), where she serves as Chair of the Education Committee and Chair of the Clinical Guidelines Committee. She is also an editor for the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine (SMFM) journal Pregnancy and a member of the SMFM Publication Committee and Practice Management Committee.

She is a frequently invited national and international speaker and is recognized for her work in advancing innovative fetal therapies, complex maternal–fetal surgery, and building collaborative programs to improve outcomes in high-risk pregnancies.
